Timesheets and report cards are both important tools. Because they answer two different questions for your clientele and your office:

  1. Time sheet: The time sheet tells you how long the employee has worked. The timesheet should include the start and end of work. You can also see break times and overtime here. 
  2. Performance record: The report slip tells you which tasks the employee has completed. It also contains information on the material used, special costs, fees and working time. 

By the way:
The following things must be on the timesheet: Employee's name, date, start and end of work. The indication of break times is not a legal obligation. However, it is helpful - because you are not allowed to include break times in your time sheet.

Due to various laws - such as the German Act to Combat Clandestine Employment (Schwarzarbeitsbekämpfungsgesetz) - some trade businesses are already obliged to record the work hours of their workforce in full anyway. According to the Federal Labor Court (BAG), however, the obligation to record work hours has applied to all companies since September 2022.
