At the same time, only 3 out of 10 companies are active in social networks. Yet Instagram can be the decisive lever for finding employees more easily.

Post regularly

Think of Instagram like a retail store: When you enter the store, you expect to see products on the shelves and a person there to ask questions. That's exactly how it should be on your Instagram account: upload new posts regularly. Take time several times a week to respond to comments and messages. Whether it's a private individual or a craft business, today we can all start Instagram accounts and upload pictures. This ensures that the Internet is full of content. Another word for it would be: Information overload. Because of this, you can't expect people to find your profile automatically. It's a give and take:Be active, reach out to other Instagram users. Just like in real life: leave comments on other accounts, follow potential customers. Instagram thrives on talking to each other and the feeling: We are interested in the same thing! 

How to build an Instagram account - 5 tips

Don't have time for social networking? With the following tips, you can reduce the amount of time you spend. And make sure at the same time that the effort is worthwhile.

1. determine goal and target group

What do you want to achieve on Instagram? Do you want to gain clientele? Get more job applications? Or educate people about your profession? Come up with a goal. So that it's clear from the start why you're freeing up valuable time.

In the second step, write down which target group you want to address. Target group is a marketing term. If you want to address everyone, you end up addressing no one. Because no one really feels addressed. Record who you want to reach on Instagram with a few key points. We have two short examples for you:

  • Young people who will soon be finished with school and are interested in an apprenticeship.
  • Home builders who want to have an environmentally friendly heating system.

It's important that you know your target audience. This makes it easier for you to upload suitable Instagram posts. After all, the building owner is not interested in vacancies in your company. But the student is!

Your goal and audience will tell you what to talk about on Instagram. Before you start, determine which topics fit: Do you want to showcase your employees on Instagram? Do you want to show your workday? Finished jobs? Or do you want to build an informative account and show, for example, how to replace a sealing ring on a faucet? 

Why narrow it down to topics? So that the time you free up for Instagram is actually meaningful. You want it to be worthwhile!

Target group: Students who are looking for an apprenticeship position

  • Reel: Film a video that shows a realistic picture of what the first day of work at your facility is like. 
  • Story: Your current apprentices show what they experience on the construction site or in vocational school.
  • Upload a post with the job description

Goal: Attract new customers in the region

  • In a post, answer a common question you get asked over and over again with customer inquiries. 
  • Before and after picture: Upload a post showing a customer Job. In the before state and the after state. You probably have these photos saved in the documentation in the Meisterwerk app anyway. If you want to use them for Instagram: Ask your customer if you're allowed to. 
  • Prove your expertise, for example in an article about the energy transition. 
  • Show how you are committed to your region in a story.

As mentioned earlier, many people use Instagram as a search engine. Use about five to ten hashtags. Choose the ones that fit the topic of the post.

You have a lot to do. Marketing can get lost in the flood of Jobs. Whether it's your boss or your staff, decide from the start who's going to take care of Instagram. If the distribution of tasks is clear, it increases the likelihood that you will achieve your goals.

These are frequently asked questions. We say: It depends. It depends on how much time you can carve out. Two hours a week is already a start.
